I don't have kids at all and don't plan on having any but of the fur kind.
Two horses which I use their manure for my garden, the hair that I get off my brush when I brush them down is used for the wild birds' nests that they make. I actaully put the hair in a bag and bring it up to the deck and put it on the feeding stations and the birds carry it off to build their nests for their chicks.
My cats hunt and kill the weaker birds so the strong surives and is able to pass their genes along.
Ha! There are still barn swallow nests in my barn that are made from my late, lamented horse's tail hair. I can't bear to knock the nests down because, well, they have a part of him in them now. He's been gone for three years. Sometimes it feels like yesterday.
When I had him, I'd leave big pads of his hair around the barn for the birds. He could shed like nobody's business. :D The boy was made of hair, except for his mane and tail which were typical Appy, which is to say, he had none. :D
